ABC Publishing, a publisher of Personalized Children’s Books has a program called the “Learn To Read Program.” This Program, for the past eight years has helped the fight against illiteracy in our schools through the use of a personalized storybook. Through local sponsors - corporations, businesses, individuals and civic/service organizations - a personalized storybook is placed in the hands of every child in a designated grade. Specifically, in South Texas and South Louisiana Elementary Schools, during Phase IX of our program we will be implementing one of two books. One is called “My Trip to The Fire Station”. It includes the fire safety techniques taught and demonstrated by our local Fire Department. The second book is called “McGruff & Me, Be Smart, Be Safe,” includes the safety techniques taught and demonstrated by our local Police Department on how to be safe when walking home, dealing with strangers and being home alone. We will invite participants from our local Fire Department or Police Department to join us. The teacher will use the book in the classroom during normal lesson time. When the teacher is finished using the book in the classroom the book will then be sent home with the child to encourage families to read together and to develop their own safety plan. Each child in Second Grade will not only receive their very own personalized storybook, but a storybook that they are the star of and main character in. These books are provided at “NO” cost to the School, Students or Parents.
This program is only possible through area businesses like you who provide sponsorships to help fight illiteracy in our schools. You as a business owner and sponsor would choose at what level you wish to sponsor this program. A Sponsorship is fully Tax Deductible as a Donation or as an Advertising Expense. When a school’s sponsorship is complete, ABC Publishing then works closely with the school, teachers, administrators, and the reading specialist to put this Program into action.
The Sponsor(s) of the program is then recognized on the first page of every book by a printed Sponsorship/Advertisement Page. Upon completion of each child’s book, there will be a Dedication Ceremony held at the School where Parents, Family Members, Sponsors, the Fire Department or Police Department, and the Media are invited to attend. The books are then given to the students from the Sponsors. ABC Publishing will then present the Sponsor(s) with a Plaque to express their appreciation, thanking them for the wonderful gift of reading for these children. ABC Publishing is responsible for press releases to local newspapers, radio and television stations, recognizing the event and thanking the Sponsor(s) for making this program possible.
The Fire Department, Police Department, School Administrators, principals, teachers and parents want the elementary children of our area to participate in this Program. It takes area businesses who want to invest in the future of our local children to make this program possible. It was once said “If you change the future of a child, you’ve changed the world.” Teaching our children to read is not just the School’s responsibility.
By personalizing each student’s book and making them the main character in the story you are: Helping children develop their listening and concentration skills. When the story is about them, children stay interested throughout the book. They love hearing about themselves. Helping every child learn the importance in fire safety and fire safety planning. Building and reinforcing a positive self-image and stronger sense of identity. Helping each child develop their imagination and creative thought process; skills that are slowly being replaced by TV and Video Games.
